Onondaga Community College, located in Syracuse, NY is currently recruiting for a FT Tenure Track Cybersecurity / Computer Science Faculty

 

The School of Applied Engineering Technology is pleased to invite applications for a full-time tenure track faculty appointment in Cybersecurity, Computer Science and Computer Information Systems disciplines.  Major responsibilities of this position include college-level teaching of Cybersecurity, Computer Science, and Computer Information Systems lecture and laboratory courses in such content areas as cybersecurity, networking, computer administration concepts, programming, software engineering, computer architecture, and several other areas. Additional responsibilities include academic advising, curriculum development, participation on committees, and collaboration with colleagues to assess student learning outcomes.

  • Other technical courses as necessary








Responsibilities






  • Be responsive to student questions and available for student support;
  • Use appropriate technology to enhance learning;
  • Assess learning outcomes and adapt curriculum to meet learning objectives;
  • Demonstrate insight and encouragement in working with diverse student populations, especially students traditionally underrepresented in higher education;
  • Provide appropriate academic advising to students to support timely degree completion;
  • Be innovative in the presentation of lectures and hands-on learning activities that achieve learning outcomes;
  • Provide timely feedback on students' assignments and exams throughout each semester; and,
  • Be accountable to meet the needs of the Department and the College, including timely submission of grades and other required materials.

Qualifications






MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Appointment at the Rank of Assistant Professor:

Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Software Engineering or closely-allied field required.

OR

Master's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering or closely-allied field preferred, Industry recognized professional license or certification; with a minimum of 3 years of full-time employment in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering or closely-allied field.

OR

Doctorate in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering or closely-allied field.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Background in teaching college level courses.
  • Demonstrated connections with local industry.
  • Bilingual in Spanish & English (English and another language also will be considered)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project);
  • Familiar with some or all of the following software programs:
    • Programming Languages - Java, C++ and Python
    • Networking
    • Network Security

Additional Information:

The 2023-2024 starting salary for the rank of Assistant Professor is $56,250.  Salaries for 2024-2025 are not yet available.  Full-time faculty can make an additional $15,000-$20,000 annually by teaching more than 15 credits in each regular semester and by teaching during off-hand (e.g., summer) periods.
