General Description:
The School of Nursing is seeking a seasoned faculty member with substantial clinical expertise in Psych/Mental Health Nursing to be part of the accelerated bachelor of nursing program. The School is committed to a nursing philosophy and curriculum framework centered on healing and holistic care for the established BSN program and the Doctor of Nursing Practice program focused on transformational leadership.
Responsibilities:
Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services: The University of St. Thomas Peavy School of Nursing (PSON) is a Catholic health ministry and adopts the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services (ERDs), published by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, requires adherence to them by all faculty members. The Ethical and Religious Directives express the Catholic Church's teaching on the dignity of the human person and the common good. The ERDs are comprised of principles that guide our response to ethical issues in healthcare. Principles Include: Promote the dignity of all, care for persons who are poor, and contribute to the good of the community. Respect the sacredness of human life from the moment of conception to death. Treat all we encounter and are privileged to serve with respect, trust, honesty, and confidentiality.
PSON Faculty Requirements:
Abide by the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services while working within or representing the PSON. Respect the University of St. Thomas' religious identity and commitment to the Catholic Church's moral teaching. PSON faculty will not instruct/contribute to subject matters or participate in student clinical placements that are in conflict with the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a PhD or DNP degree and a minimum of 5 years of BSN program teaching experience, including in an online format, reflecting commitment to best practices in nursing education, or any equivalent combination of work and teaching experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position. Current licensure as RN in the state of Texas, or eligibility for licensure is required. This is a non-tenure track position, although tenure track opportunities may be available in future if desired. Academic rank will be offered commensurate with education and experience.
While building on a powerful legacy of Catholic nursing education, the nursing programs focus on innovation and creativity in curricula that incorporate emerging best practices in nursing education designed to prepare graduates for the future of nursing. Creative education/practice partnerships, learning partnerships between teacher and student and innovative use of educational/simulation technology will be integral to both programs. Faculty will participate in further enhancing the collaborative organizational model guiding SON governance.

Also, include a statement demonstrating willingness to support the tenets of Catholic higher education as articulated in Ex Corde Ecclesiae. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to a holistic nursing philosophy/framework and the capacity to work collaboratively as part of an engaged teaching team with nursing faculty, colleagues from other disciplines and clinical partners.
