Job Summary
Deliver individual and group academic advisement to current and prospective students new to UT Arlington. Assists with the planning and delivery of an academic advising initiative, conducts proactive outreach, provides interventions for students with academic early alerts, and lends additional support to students on academic warning/probation. Responsible for facilitating the exchange of academic and technical information. Provide professional advisement to enhance the academic experience, student retention and completion.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Conducts academic advising for current and prospective students utilizing multiple modalities such as in-person, virtual, phone, and email. Provides guidance on academic topics such as degree requirements, relevant course selection, and provide students with assistance in setting and achieving educational and career goals. Helps students make informed academic decisions teaching them how to track their own academic progress, locate and interpret appropriate policies, and to utilize the tools and resources available. Monitors the academic progress of a student case load which includes proactive outreach to provide students with just-in-time assistance. Conducts verification of degree progress, removal of holds, and approval of various forms to ensure timely student progression, probation advising, etc. Analyzes and interpret student data, transcripts, and placement results. Enters advising notes into MyMav following best practices for documenting student appointments/contacts. Provides training and support for new advisors Oversees a caseload of students in the upper division ranking process and processes student files accordingly. Maintains a clear understanding of all applicable federal, state, and University policies and procedures. Keep informed of relevant academic programs and support services such as counseling and tutoring within a College and University and provide appropriate referrals to students. Participates in meetings, professional conferences, and individual professional development. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelorβs degree with two (2) years of experience working with college students or adolescents in an advising capacity or the equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Masterβs Degree. Two (2) years of experience as an academic advisor at a public R1 University.
Work Schedule
Monday-Friday; 8:00am-5:00pm. Ability to travel to different campus locations. May include remote and virtual academic advising work outside an office.
